The new Accord had its wraps take off today. As speculated, there will be 3 models, the 2.0l, 2.4l and the 3.5l V6 with VCM (Variable Cylinder Management).

VCM is basically a technology that partially halts the action of some cylinders which means the displacement of the engine is controlled depending on the driving pattern. So when cruising at 110kmh for example, you’re actually using just 1.75l capacity of your V6.

The OTR price in Peninsula for the new Accord is as follows:

  • 2.0l, RM141,800.00
  • 2.4l, RM171,800.00
  • 3.5l, RM249,800.00

The 2.0l will traditionally be the bigger seller due to its lower price then the more goodies packed 2.4l. What you are actually paying extra for the 2.4l (not including the engine), just to name a few are:

  • 17″ Rims
  • Driver side 8 way power seat
  • Premium audio system
  • Power rear sunshade
  • Side airbags with OPDS (Occupant Position Detection System)
  • VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist)

I just hope this new Accord doesn’t suffer the fate as the previous generation CKD built issues especially the brake pads. If Honda gets it right this time, it will definitely put a large fly in Toyota’s ointment.
